My Dream Time
It's a tennis story. It's a family story. It's a teamwork story. It's the story of how I got to where and who I am today. I'm only in my mid-twenties, and some might think that's young to write a memoir. Who does that, right? But for me and my team it's always been important to reflect on every part of the journey, especially the end. In that context, the timing is perfect to share my story, from the first time I picked up a racquet as a 5-year-old girl to the night I packed up my tennis bag after winning the 2022 Australian Open. This book gives me a chance to look back at every moment of the 20 years in between, and to think carefully through the highs and lows, the work and the play, the smiles and the tears. My Dream Time is about finding the path to being the best I could be, not just as an athlete but as a person, and to consider the way those identities overlap and compete. We all have a professional and a personal self. How do you conquer nerves and anxiety? How do you deal with defeat, or pain? What drives you to succeed ? and what happens when you do? The answers tell me so much, about bitter disappointments and also dreams realized?from injuries and obscurity and self-doubt to winning Wimbledon and ranking number 1 in the world. My story is about the power and joy of doing that thing you love and seeing where it can take you, about the importance of purpose ? and perspective?in our lives.

Now Simon shares her fascination with the world in this lively, energetic primer for anyone wondering what in the world a dink is or why their neighbors have had a net up in their driveway since May 2020. With easy-to-follow steps and expert advice, readers will learn everything they need to know, including information like: Where and how to set up a courtScoring, gameplay, and equipmentStrategies to win at any skill levelThe difference between a dink, a drive, and a drop shot In addition, Simon weaves in inspiring stories from the world's top players during their most exciting pickleball moments.
The Match
The incredible story of what happened when two outsiders-one an emerging champion who happens to be Jewish, the other, the first black player to win Wimbledon-pair up not only to form a winning team, but also an enduring friendship. Althea Gibson first met Angela Buxton at an exhibition match in India. On the surface, the two women couldn't be more different. The daughter of sharecroppers and fiercely competitive, Althea Gibson was born in the American South and turned to athletics in an effort to belong to a community that would welcome her. Angela Buxton, the granddaughter of Russian Jews, grew up in Liverpool. England, where her father ran a successful business. But they both faced their share of prejudice, particularly on the tennis circuit, where they were excluded from tournaments and clubs because of race and religion. At the 1956 Wimbledon, despite their athletic prowess, both were shunned by the other female players and found themselves without doubles partners. Undaunted, they decided to play together. And though they had never so much as practiced together-they triumphed. In Nobody's Darlings, Bruce Schoenfeld delivers an unexpected story of two underdogs who refused to let bigotry stop them both on the court and off. Here too is the story of a remarkable friendship.

The Great Book of Tennis
The remarkable achievement of Roger Federer winning the Australian Open to record his 20th Grand Slam Singles Title has increased the profile of tennis even further. These days, tennis has massive television and media coverage. It is hard to accept that the roots of the game were probably in French monasteries many centuries ago. It has come a long way.Tennis was one of the bastions of amateur sport but that in itself restricted the players who possibly had the time or money to compete regularly. It is half a century since the Open Era changed that but this book tells the story of the early tournaments in tennis, how it was regulated and who were the major names, male and female who graced the sport. You will certainly have a greater understanding of tennis if you read this book. You will hear about the many personalities that have been involved in the game and likely want to do more research to find out more. There are sad tales, some of early death and bravery, others of extremely poor children whose talent for the game of tennis changed their lives. So what are you waiting for? Open the pages of this book and dig deep into the great sport of Tennis!

Different Strokes
Serena, Venus, and the Unfinished Black Tennis Revolution“An important contribution to sports collections.”-Brenda Barrera, Booklist "Harris is not only knowledgeable about the sport, but that he is passionate about both the game and the issues surrounding blacks in tennis. This book will provide much needed insight into the matter of race in tennis and illustrates that while there has been much progress in that area, especially given the professional and social presence of Serena Williams, there is still much work to do to address the inequalities still in existence."-Guy Who Reviews Sports Books “Cecil Harris has written an exhaustive, multifaceted look at tennis through an African American lens. He expertly details how the sport-despite producing the remarkable Williams sisters-still faces struggles in overcoming its troubling history regarding Black folks.”-Deron Snyder, sports columnist for the Washington Times “Different Strokes is an expansive history of blacks in tennis that goes far beyond the names that we all know-Venus, Serena, Althea, and Arthur-and tells us about players on and off the court who have shaped the landscape of the sport. With an insider’s knowledge, Cecil Harris narrates a powerful story that goes up to present day, with candid behind-the-scenes anecdotes. It’s necessary reading for anyone who follows tennis and a vital addition to the chronicles of African Americans in sports.”-Nekesa Mumbi Moody, global entertainment editor for the Associated Press “As Cecil Harris takes you back in time to highlight the struggles of past players and officials, he expertly notes the struggle today is just as harsh and much more subtle as he navigates you through the topic. Harris takes the reader by the mind in teaching a well-needed lesson. When he’s done, you are surprisingly well educated on the subject, whether you realize it or not. Professor Harris gets an A+.”-Tony Paige, former sports talk show host for WFAN Radio, New York
