Je bent 38 en je leven lijkt op orde: je timmert aan de weg in je droombaan, je hebt een stabiele relatie en je weet ongeveer wie je bent. De voetstap van het personage

Hubert Fermin (1948) is ruim veertig jaar acteur geweest en debuteert met “De voetstap van het personage” als dichter. Met de poëzie in deze bundel refereert Fermin aan zijn jarenlange ervaringen als acteur, op en achter het toneel. En zo heeft de acteur ten langen leste zijn eigen woorden gevonden. Willem Jan Otten zegt er in zijn voorwoord het volgende over: ‘De verstrengeling tussen acteur en tekst is het onderwerp van een van de laatste gedichten in dit boek. Het eindigt met de bondigst mogelijke conclusie: ‘de acteur is tekst’. En twee coupletten eerder staat er: ‘tijd baart tekst’. En nog weer eerder: ‘tekst schept handelen’. Dankzij de tekst wordt de dichter, die zichzelf al eerder met ‘jij grijzige beroeps’ heeft aangesproken, ’personage’.
