Omschrijving

This book presents the most important topics relevant to designing the school curriculum. These topics include learning theory, assessment and evaluation of learning, unit planning and lesson planning.

Dr. Marie Pagliaro has provided a “how to” resource to be utilized by teachers and other educational professionals that promises to enhance teacher effectiveness through the systematic implementation of best instructional practices. Rooted in current learning theory and research sourced, this practical guide provides the resources necessary for teachers to systematically improve their instruction resulting in student achievement growth. Best Practices Observation Instruments (BPOIs) developed by participants from across the education spectrum established criteria and resultant performance indicators which, when utilized, yield systematic improvement in teacher performance, the key variable in student success. Professionals are encouraged to work collaboratively to assess peer improvement through the analysis of BPOI data and through self-reflection.

Dr. Marie Pagliaro presents an organized and comprehensive list of criteria necessary for meaningful, relevant instruction. If pre-service and in-service teachers refer to, reflect upon and follow the criteria presented, they’ll have a blueprint for quality teaching. The book presents practical information based on solid research. Teachers and student teachers will be able to use the material immediately to impact positively on their students’ achievement. This book would be an excellent text for courses in methodology; it will guide the current and prospective teacher in all aspects of successful instruction.

A most enjoyable read with great reviews, examples, and updates on the latest research.  The Best Practices Observation Instruments inform readers what quality teaching on a variety of topics really is and how teachers can achieve that quality.

Marie Pagliaro is currently a professional development consultant.  She was a full professor and Director of the Teacher Education Division at Dominican College, Chair of the Education Department at Marymount College, a supervisor of student teachers at Lehman College of the City University of New York, and Chair of the Science Department and teacher of chemistry, general science, and mathematics in the Yonkers Public Schools.  She earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Teaching at Fordham University.
