The Renaissance is a period in cultural history that began in the 14th century and ended around the 17th century. On the Italian peninsula, a movement emerged from humanism that showed a greater appreciation for antiquity. Within the cultural world, there was an endeavor to revive the classical era, which had declined during the Middle Ages; Renaissance literally means rebirth. New styles in architecture, literature, and art were introduced, and the Renaissance is now considered an important period in cultural history.

Hieronymus Bosch. The Complete Works. 40th Ed.

    Pop Art

Peaking in the 1960s, Pop Art began as a revolt against mainstream approaches to art and culture and evolved into a wholesale interrogation of modern society, consumerism, the role of the artist, and of what constituted an artwork. Epitomized by Warhol’s Campbell’s soup cans, Pop Art drew on mass-market sources and products as well as the banal and kitsch.
