Omschrijving

This volume collects Late Ancient, Byzantine and Medieval appropriations of Aristotle's Posterior Analytics, addressing the logic of inquiry, concept formation, the question whether metaphysics is a science, and the theory of demonstration.

He has published extensively on the ancient commentary tradition, on Aristotle and on Neoplatonism, including John Philoponus' New Definition of Prime Matter (Brill, 1997). Mariska Leunissen, Ph.D. (Leiden 2007) is Assistant Professor at Washington University in St. Louis. She has published several articles on Aristotle's teleology and theory of demonstration, and is the author of Explanation and Teleology in Aristotle's Science of Nature (CUP, 2010).
