Omschrijving
A brilliant monster adventure story about bravery and kindness, starring a strong little girl who finds out who the real monsters are.
Woollvin’s characteristically bold style and her creations’ big, stylised eyes lend themselves brilliantly to subversive storytelling.
A fierce, inquisitive heroine, a cast of mythical beasts and Woollvin's distinctive art makes this a rich treat
Bethan Woollvin’s picture books are instantly recognisable and her strong, graphic, Moomin-influenced illustrations are beautifully engaging and quirky. [...] An empowering read for all small heroes, and a lovely reminder that most of us, even monsters, are actually quite nice
Bethan was once asked to describe her books in three words – she chose ‘bold, dark and sneaky’ *– this is most definitely all of those but also delightful and endearing – do read it!
Woollvin’s bold, daring and fiercely comical story conveys important messages about not judging by appearance and standing up for yourself and your friends. The perfect book to empower your daughters!
I just ADORE Bethan Woollvin’s fairytale series soooo much… Bethan has created a totally new fairytale character for modern kids and she has done it with her characteristic wit. I’ll defy you to find many illustrators as talented at bringing to life characters in such few paint strokes
Another stunning book from Bethan Woollvin....Sharing a powerful message of not judging by appearances and of standing up for your friends, this rather gorgeous book is a must-have for any adventure's collection
Bethan has succeeded yet again in providing us with a book that showcases heart, humor and heroines at their finest
Full of adventure and peril, this story really merges traditional themes with an updated outlook on gender roles really well. The story also highlights the importance of knowing and respecting the natural world
We love Bo, another rebel girl role model for young feminists
I Can Catch a Monster is illustrated in Woolvin's distinctive style, in a delicious pallet of orange and green to create a contemporary mythological tale. Of course, the capturing of a monster is only one layer of the story; this is also a book dealing with bravery, kindness, and the age-old issues of being too young or too small to join in with older children's games. A perfect book for children in the early years and key stage 1 and an ideal addition to the school's PSHE collection
Bethan Woollvin won the Macmillan Prize for Illustration in 2014 for Little Red – her classy, bold interpretation of Little Red Riding Hood. It was a startlingly confident debut which she followed with an equally striking and feminist take on Rapunzel, with not a handsome prince in sight, followed by her twist on Hansel and Gretel. She is also the illustrator of The Button Book by Sally Nicholls and Meet the Planets by Caryl Hart. The eldest in a family of ten children, Bethan understands well what appeals to a variety of age groups, and all her work exudes a natural dry wit and charm. She graduated from Anglia Ruskin University with a First Class Degree in Illustration in 2015 and now lives in Sheffield.
