Omschrijving

The book focuses on applications of industrial explosives in civil and mining engineering works. Explosives and their actions are explained in terms of basics, principles, and related chemistry.

Marilena Cardu is Associate Professor at Politecnico di Torino University (Environment, Land and Infrastructures Department – DIATI); Research responsible of the Institute of Environmental Geology and Geoengineering - Section of Turin - of the National Research Council (CNR-IGG). Their teaching activity includes Excavation Engineering and Mining Plants, MSc in in Petroleum & Mining Engineering – path Mining, Politecnico di Torino, main lecturer and course responsible; Underground Works and Mining, MSc in in Petroleum and Mining Engineering – Path Mining, Politecnico di Torino (in collaboration); Tashkent Turin Polytechnic University (TTPU), Tashkent, Uzbekistan: Safety and Civil Protection (Integrated to “Applied Geology”), BSc in in Civil Engineering; Demolition Techniques, Civil and Environmental Engineering Ph.D. course; Rock Blasting and control of Unwanted Effects, Civil and Environmental Engineering Ph.D. course Main topics of research: Mechanical characterisation, at different scales (both geometrical and time-dependant), of rocks; rock-tool interaction problems; Simulation and optimisation of fragmentation, mechanical cutting, rock breaking; Evaluation of explosives and initiation systems; Industrial explosives for civil demolitions, rock excavation and rock splitting; Exploitation of dimension stones; Equipment selection in quarrying; Controlled blasting: pre-splitting and smooth-blasting optimization; remediation with explosive; Vibrations and stresses induced by blasting; Environmental impacts due to the exploitation and/or civil demolition (fly-rocks, dust, noise, etc.); Organisation and planning of excavation techniques.

Daniele Martinelli is Assistant Professor at Department of Environment, Land and Infrastructure Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino. He’s an expert in numerical modelling and in rock masses characterization for applications both open pit and underground. His teaching activity includes Mining Plants, MSc in Petroleum & Mining Engineering – path Mining, Politecnico di Torino; Tunnelling, MSc in Environmental Engineering; Master course in Tunnelling and Tunnel Boring Machines. Main topics of research: Conventional and mechanized excavation, rock mass conditioning for EPB applications, especially regarding the geotechnical characterization of the conditioned material, Tunnelling and Tunnel Boring Machines; he spent a period at Aalto University in Espoo, Helsinki, improving his knowledge on Scandinavian rock masses. He has been working also as a project engineer at Rockplan, located in Helsinki, Finland, since 2010.

Carmine Todaro is Post-doctoral research fellow at Politecnico di Torino University (Environment, Land and Infrastructures Department – DIATI). Teaching collaboration: Excavation Engineering and Mining Plants, MSc in Petroleum & Mining Engineering – path Mining, Politecnico di Torino; Tunnelling, MSc in in Petroleum & Mining Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering. Main topics of research: Conventional and mechanized excavation, EPB tunnelling and soil conditioning, wear, two-components grout backfilling, soil and rock improvements, surface and underground mining.
