Omschrijving
Describes different ways of training sheepdogs and addresses a number of subjects such as working with sensitive dogs and dogs lacking in confidence, the 'square movement', and the 'concept of opposites'.
'Nij has produced this fine book, which combines personal experiences with skilful guidelines for anyone wishing to be trained on how to train sheepdogs... it is one of the most entertaining and revealing books about a rural skill that I have ever read.'
'Nij has commendably, over a relatively short time, represented his country by achieving qualification for the English Team, going on to the International... something many people only dream of doing... To achieve this Nij's insight into the elements of the partnership between man and dog has enabled him to understand the particular characteristics of dogs, their problems and requirements and to foster, nurture and develop their individual potential.'
Nij Vyas has been a sheepdog trainer and triallist for over eighteen years, and his approach has been characterized by maintaining empathy with the dog and by approaching training from the dog's perspective. Nij is a well-respected handler and judge who has enjoyed many wins at championship level. He qualified two dogs for each of the English National Sheepdog Trials from 2004 to 2009 and has also represented the England Team at international level.
