The situation of our country¿s fuel and energy requirement has become a major issue due to the unavailability and overpricing of the fossil fuels like coal, petrol, diesel, etc. So it is mandatory to find an alternative and renewable source of fuel to meet the needs of our country¿s fuel and energy requirement. It is on those factors that this work has been based. The potential of Biogas in power generation is immense and is definitely an area that deserves a lot of attention. This work has fully described the properties and uses of Biogas. It has also gone a step further to look into methane which is the most important component gas of the Biogas. This work is about using the Biogas as a fuel to run a boiler and to utilize that energy to generate electricity. As the Biogas is produced from organic waste, It¿s price is very much cheaper than any other fuels like petrol, diesel, LPG, etc. The sludge produced from the Biogas plant is a very good organic fertilizer which increases the fertility of the soil, can be used in agriculture field. By implementing Biogas plant ¿the domestic waste generated in our country can reduced and can be converted into a useful source of energy¿.

Mr. A. Sam Daniel Fenny, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering, Agni College of Technology, Chennai, Tamilnadu, India. He has 10 years of teaching experience. His area of interest is Product Design, Industrial Robots, Design of Machine Elements, FEA. He is currently doing his research in Material Characterization.
