When the young Helen moves into Wildfell Hall, she is met with hostility by her new neighbours. Only one person takes the time to befriend her and comes to find out that the woman makes a living by painting pictures and selling them. As time passes by, we find out that Helen has run from her abusive and alcoholic husband to protect herself and her son. Considered one of the first feminist novels, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is the most praised work of Anne Brontë and a literary masterpiece.
Chiltern Publishing offers multiple works of the Brontë sisters, including Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre. Check out the entire Chiltern Classics collections by clicking here. This title is also available in Dutch, click here to check out the Dutch translation.
