Description

Chagas disease is a neglected zoonosis caused by the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi. In recent years, outbreaks of oral origin have highlighted the multiplicity of aspects involved in the ecology of this disease. In this sense, opossums of the species Didelphis marsupialis act as reservoir hosts of the parasite and have the capacity to act also as vectors, transmitting infective forms of the parasite from the secretions of their anal glands. This book presents the results and analysis of research works oriented to the detection of parasites of the genus Trypanosoma spp in D. marsupialis from the capital of the department of Santander, Colombia, by means of parasitological techniques useful for veterinarians and mastologists interested in the subject.
