Jan Huygen van Linschoten (1562-1611) was a Dutchman who in 1596 penned the famous Itinerario, an account of his travel to the Indian Peninsular, with engravings and captions. This work reproduces these engravings and captions together with an extensive analysis.
Ernst van den Boogaart studied history at Brandeis University and the University of Amsterdam. He writes mainly about the Dutch expansion in the Atlantic and has curated exhibitions on the Dutch in Brazil and on the Dutch discovery of Australia.
