Fred Frog is a fun character who can say and read words only in pure sounds, or 'Fred Talk'. This beanie toy can be used flexibly as part of the Read Write Inc. Phonics programme to help introduce children to letters, sounds and words in a fun, dynamic and fast-paced way.
Due to the success of RWI, Ruth Miskin is currently involved in a series of nationwide training programmes for primary schools commissioned by the UK government, aimed at training teachers in effective phonics teaching.
In 2007 the UK's Channel 4 broadcast a series of programmes featuring Ruth Miskin working in a failing school, using the RWI programme to raise standards. In the course of the series, struggling and non-readers were shown developing new confidence, competence and enthusiasm for reading. The results make a compelling case for the effectiveness of the RWI programme.
