Learning to Look
Dispatches from the Art WorldLearning to Look is a collection of short and accessible essays on how we experience art. In each chapter, Alva Noë starts from an experience of a particular artwork and from there shows how these works open new questions about philosophy, science, and ourselves. This is a companion work to Noe's 2019 volume, Infinite Baseball.

Infinite Baseball
Notes from a Philosopher at the BallparkDid you know that baseball is uniquely a 'forensic' game about allocating credit or blame? Or that performance enhancing drugs are no more disreputable than Tommy John surgery? Alva Noë, a philosopher in the bleachers, is not always convincing but is invariably interesting. And he does what a philosopher should do: When you finish this slender volume you will have a new way of seeing familiar things.

Varieties of Presence
The world shows up for us, but, as Alva Noë contends in his latest exploration of the problem of consciousness, it doesn’t show up for free. We must show up, too, and bring along what knowledge and skills we’ve cultivated. As with a painting in a gallery, the world has no meaning—no presence to be experienced—apart from our able engagement with it.
