    Subjective Atlas of Pakistan

Taqi Shaheen is a film-maker and visual artist based in Pakistan who creates audio visual installations, films, paintings, photographs, and performances. His work crosses mediums and defies genre distinctions to fashion witty and curious observations of contemporary Pakistani culture and its urban landscapes. He has worked and collaborated with many artists, and has been a leading exponent in contemporary audio visual art extensively touring his works. In 2002, he founded DEDACHI, a group of artists, musicians and performers to produce collaborative works in theatre and films. He has also been involved in various theatre productions as a writer and director. In recent years he has designed for the stage, including productions of Fantastic Mr. Fox, James and the Giant Peach for Alliance Françoise, Pakistan. He received a graduate degree in Fine Arts from National College of Arts, Lahore. Annelys de Vet is a Belgium based Dutch designer and initiator, running a practice for gentle power and radical imagination. The work explores the role of design in relation to the public and political discourse. From 2009-19 she headed the master in design 'Think tank for visual strategies' at the Sandberg Instituut Amsterdam — where she earned an MDes herself in 1999. She founded the inclusive design label 'Disarming Design from Palestine' that develops, presents, and sells useful products from Palestine. Since 2003 de Vet initiated a series of subjective atlases that map countries from a human perspective. Previous editions covered Palestine (2007), Mexico (2011), Hungary (2011), etc.

  6. Design in Conservative Times

    Design in Conservative Times

‘Design in Conservative Times’ tackles conservatism in and around design, challenging both designer and user to actively engage with, and reflect upon their positions within our current, politically charged landscape. The focal point of this reflection at large ranges from hands-on issues within specific practices, to the broader, more fundamental motivations that fuel them. Within this book, Onomatopee wishes to explore the conservative currents and cadence in and around design(ed) culture. By inviting both graphic design and fashion design professionals to comment, reflect, promote, critique, provoke and/or contemplate on conservative culture in relation to their own visions, design practice and designed goods, we wish to lay bare the intricacies and dynamics of design(er) in society today. As a result, issues of feminism, decolonisation, queerness, engagement, ecology, production and preservation in relation to conservatism today come to the forefront of conversation.

    Design Dedication

    Adaptive Mentalities in Design Education

  8. Subjective Atlas of Amsterdam

    Subjective Atlas of Amsterdam

Who is Amsterdam, really? This 'Subjective Atlas of Amsterdam' presents the Dutch capital as experienced by the residents themselves. Many who call Amsterdam home – especially those most often pushed to the margins – translate their experiences into maps, drawings, photos, and graphics. You’ll see streets you’ve not yet walked down, far beyond the historical centre, through the eyes of people you may not have met, but who could be your neighbours. These pages illustrate unsung neighbourhoods, subjective mundanities, vital criticism, and declarations of love, creating a nuanced collection that captures something difficult to quantify or make tangible: how cultures shape a city. Initiated by the Architecture Centre of Amsterdam (Arcam), this book, and the plural realities within it, reflect on how to make the city a better place, for everyone.
