"The Trial is an extensive publication chronicling the decade-plus-long evolution of one of Rossella Biscotti’s seminal works. Developed between 2006 and 2021, it centres on the “April 7th” trial (1983–84), a landmark inquiry and legal case against members of the Italian leftist movement Autonomia Operaia. The project has unfolded through installations, sculptures, performances, reading groups, films, and printed matter, presented at (among many others): MAXXI—National Museum of 21st Century Art, 2010; dOCUMENTA(13), Kassel, 2012; e-flux, New York, 2013; Wiels, Brussels, 2014; Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, 2024. The core of the book is the English transcription of a six-hour audio piece, originally composed from hundreds of hours of the trial’s archival recordings broadcast by Radio Radicale. Edited like a theatrical script, The Trial becomes a polyphonic narrative that foregrounds the political voices of defendants in opposition to the structure and language of the legal machine: prosecutors, judges, lawyers. The transcript is accompanied by critical texts by Michael Hardt, Daniel Blanga Gubbay, and Giovanna Zapperi, as well as a conversation between the artist and philosopher Antonio Negri, one of the trial’s key defendants. It investigates how political memory is carried, translated, and embodied across time. Featuring visual documentation and multilingual excerpts from performances staged across various institutions and countries, this publication traces the work’s ongoing reactivation through translation, collaboration, and context-specific interventions. The Trial resists closure, offering instead a mutable framework for engaging with political history, collective memory, and the performative nature of justice. "

Trilogie de la différence

La Trilogie de la différence, comprenant Essaim, L'Homme plié et Cithéron, réunit l'oeuvre théâtrale à ce jour du philosophe Antonio Negri. La première pièce Essaim - didactique du militant -, qui date de 2004, se confronte à la tradition du théâtre didactique de Bertolt Brecht et Heiner Müller. Elle se déploie sur quatre séquences et douze tableaux. L'homme et le choeur en sont les protagonistes. L'homme, au début de la pièce, pétrifié par l'indignation, se détermine à la violence. Le choeur en prend acte. La parole les saisit l'un et l'autre, perturbe, intercède, et se fait expression commune. L'homme, par ce dialogue, s'affranchit des affects malheureux, et envisage de nouveaux modes de vie et de résistance. La deuxième pièce L'Homme plié - didactique du rebelle -, qui date de 2005, se déroule en Italie, aux premiers jours de la guerre et se termine au printemps 1945. Un homme se plie face aux fascismes qui toujours resurgissent pour ne pas se briser. Les passions les plus joyeuses naîtront de son refus et de sa résistance. Contexte et paysage se trouveront à jamais modifiés par son action. Enfin, la tragédie Cithéron - didactique de l'exode -, qui date de 2006, est une libre interprétation des Bacchantes, d'Euripide. Ici, l'espérance de l'exode sombre dans la tragédie, et sa didactique se concentre sur trois figures de la condition humaine: kairòs (pour Dionysos), tempestus (pour Agavé), et typhon (pour Penthée). Trois mots qui, dans des langues et en des temps différents, expriment la décision théorique, le drame éthique et la folie politique qui hantent alternativement le coeur de celui qui a choisi l'exode.Dans Trilogie de la différence, la rencontre entre théâtre et philosophie ne repose pas sur des arguments ou sur des figures déployées, mais dépend du langage et de sa transformation.
