La infección por estafilococos se ha convertido en un grave problema de salud en todo el mundo debido a la falta de tratamientos precisos. Estas circunstancias requieren un avance urgente en la búsqueda de tratamientos eficaces y eficientes para tratar las infecciones por Staphylococcus aureus. Por lo tanto, el objetivo del presente estudio fue determinar los patrones de resistencia de las cepas de S. aureus resistentes a la meticilina aisladas de muestras clínicas y subclínicas. Se recolectaron veinticinco plantas medicinales de diferentes zonas de Pakistán, se secaron al aire y se extrajeron en metanol. A continuación, se analizaron estos extractos vegetales para determinar su potencial contra el S. aureus resistente a la oxacilina. Además, se midió la concentración inhibitoria máxima media de los extractos de plantas medicinales eficaces mediante el método de microdilución. Nuestros resultados revelaron que los extractos metanólicos de cinco plantas (Centratherum anthelminticum, Eucalyptus globulus, Lawsonia inermis, Punica granatum y Rubia cordifolia) mostraban actividad antibacteriana contra cepas de S. aureus resistentes a la oxacilina aisladas clínicamente. Nuestros resultados sugieren que diversas plantas medicinales pueden ser útiles en el desarrollo de fármacos más potentes contra el S. aureus multirresistente.

Healing power of medicinal plants against drug resistant S. aureus
Staphylococcal infection has twisted into a rigorous health problem worldwide due to unavailability of precise treatment. These circumstances require an urgent progress in search for proficient and effective treatment to deal with Staphylococcus aureus infections. Therefore the aim of the present study was to determine resistance patterns of methicillin resistant S. aureus strains isolated from clinical and sub-clinical samples. Twenty five medicinal plants were collected from different areas of Pakistan, air dried and extracted in methanol. These plant extracts were then screened for their potential against oxacillin resistant S. aureus. In addition, half maximal inhibitory concentration of efficient medicinal plant extracts was measured through micro-dilution method. Our results revealed that methanolic extracts of five plants (Centratherum anthelminticum, Eucalyptus globulus, Lawsonia inermis, Punica granatum and Rubia cordifolia) exhibited antibacterial activity against clinically isolated oxacillin resistant strains of S. aureus. Our results propose that various medicinal plants can be helpful in the development of more potent drugs against multidrug resistant S. aureus.

Lead Intoxication And Evaluation Of Oxidative Stress In Humans
Lead is an environmental toxic metal, which is capable of causing many chronic diseases. Important sources of lead include pipes, lead containing paints, gasoline containing lead, and the different kinds of canned foods. In the present study lead toxicity and the oxidative stress caused by lead intoxication has been studied. Oxidative stress is a very major effect of lead. The mechanism of lead-induced oxidative stress involves an imbalance between generation and removal of ROS (reactive oxygen species) in tissues and cellular components causing damage to membranes, DNA and proteins. The blood samples from lead exposed and control males were collected and sera was isolated from them. Different biochemical tests were performed on serum by the use of biochemical kits. The results indicated an increase in glucose concentration in lead exposed subjects.
