Sur la route des estuaires entre Rennes et Fougères, Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier fait partie des Marches de Bretagne qui constituent l'ancienne zone frontalière entre la Bretagne et la France. Là, de nombreuses forteresses furent construites entre les Ve et XVe siècles, pour former une ligne de protection qui allait de Dol-de-Bretagne à Clisson. La jolie petite cité, dotée d'un riche patrimoine, est célèbre pour la fameuse bataille de 1488 qui vit la défaite de l'armée bretonne face à l'armée française. Témoin de cette époque, le château médiéval, dont il ne subsiste aujourd'hui que les vestiges du donjon ! Vincent Bonnisseau vous invite à remonter le temps et à découvrir, grâce à sa collection de cartes postales et de photographies anciennes, le patrimoine et la vie quotidienne de sa cité dans la première moitié du XXe siècle. Il présente notamment des clichés inédits sur le camp de la Lande d'Ouée, tour à tour camp de manoeuvres militaires, camp de prisonniers et, depuis 1979, lieu d'implantation du 11e régiment d'artillerie de marine.

Brian Vincent is a consultant ceramicist resident in Dunedin, New Zealand.His doctoral dissertation examined the ceramics from the prehistoric Thai site of Ban Na Di. This series of volumes is edited by Charles Higham, James Cook Fellow, University of Otago and Visiting Scholar, St. Catharine's Collge, Cambridge, and Dr Rachanie Thosarat, Research Archaeologist in the Fine Arts Department, Bangkok, Thailand. They co-directed the 1985 excavation of Khok Phanom Di.

"Onheilsprofeten zijn er al genoeg, we moeten kijken hoe het beter kan in de wereld," zegt hij. Dit boek geeft niet alleen blijk van een eruditie die tot iets gediend heeft. De schrijver maakt eveneens met humor en wijsheid gebruik van vijftig jaar werkervaring op hoog politiek-bestuurlijk niveau en hij vertelt nuchter en deskundig over zijn jarenlange activiteiten als onderzoeker, bestuurder en organisator op het gebied van kunst en cultuur in binnen- en buitenland. Darwin, Descartes, Dawkins en tal van andere denkers komen voorbij. Maar steeds blijft de toon van de schrijver lichtvoetig.
