Bernard Malamud (1914-1986) is een van de bekendste Joods-Amerikaanse schrijvers van de twintigste eeuw. Hij wordt beschouwd als meester van de short story – de prestigieuze PEN/Malamud Award, voor de beste korte verhalen, werd naar hem vernoemd.
