Monet
Der als "Prinz der Impressionisten" gefeierte Claude Monet (1840-1926) brach mit althergebrachten Konventionen und Erwartungshaltungen, indem er in seinen Bildern nicht nur die Realität, sondern auch den Akt der Wahrnehmung an sich festhalten wollte. Mit schnellen, wilden Pinselstrichen "en plein air" fing er ein, wie das Licht Farben, Muster und Konturen verwandelt und auf das menschliche Auge wirkt. Monet interessierte sich für den Raum "zwischen dem Motiv und dem Künstler", für die flüchtige Natur unserer Wahrnehmung. In seinen berühmten Bilderserien der Seerosen sowie auch in Gemälden von Pappeln, Heuhaufen und der Kathedrale von Rouen malte er dasselbe Motiv zu unterschiedlichen Jahres- und Tageszeiten sowie unter wechselnden Wetterbedingungen, um die ständige Wandlung unserer visuellen Umgebung zu erforschen. Dieses Buch bietet eine solide Einführung in das OEuvre des Künstlers, der gleichzeitig über Sinn und Zweck eines Bildes sowie das Vergehen der Zeit reflektierte und damit die Kunst in eine neue Richtung wies.
