    The Fall, Desperation And Recovery

The Fall: Desperation and RecoveryThe Sequel to Converted on LSD TripBy David ClarkeThis gripping continuation of Converted on LSD Trip follows David Clarke's real-life journey through personal failure, spiritual trial, and remarkable recovery. Having once been radically transformed from a life of crime and drugs by a profound Christian conversion, David now recounts the sobering aftermath of that mountaintop experience-what happened when the fervour faded, the fellowship fractured, and the battles began. After seceding from the Bierton Strict and Particular Baptists due to deep doctrinal disagreements, David found himself cast adrift, wrestling with spiritual isolation, the struggles of family life, and opposition from those closest to him. In this raw and honest account, David details his attempts to find godly fellowship, his unexpected help from believers like David Oldham and John Metcalfe, and his confrontation with the damaging influence of false teaching.Told with clarity and conviction, The Fall: Desperation and Recovery is not simply a story of relapse-it is a story of resilience. Readers are taken through the author's trials at Fareham College, his battles with church leadership, and the ongoing call to stand for truth in an age of compromise. It's a timely reminder that the Christian life is not a straight line, but a path paved with repentance, perseverance, and grace. For those who were moved by David's first testimony, this sequel offers a deeper, more searching look at what it means to walk the narrow road-even when that road becomes lonely.

    'Diese Merkwürdige Kleinigkeit Einer Vision'

Christoph Hein is one of the best-known authors of the former GDR, and his works of fiction have been widely interpreted as responses to and critiques of socialist society. In this study, David Clarke undertakes a detailed analysis of all of Christoph Hein's major works of fiction from Der fremde Freund (1928) to Willenbrock (2000) in order to explore Hein's critique of the GDR regime, whilst also demonstrating how aspects of that critique provided a starting point for Hein's rejection of capitalism both before and after German unification. For Hein, socialism had failed to make good its promise to create a community bound together by common values and goals, preferring instead to impose conformity upon its citizens. Capitalism, he believed, was equally unable to meet the need for community, and Hein sought to demonstrate the consequences of this state of affairs in the figure of Wörle in his first post-unification novel, Das Napoleon-Spiel (1993). After this point, Clarke argues, Hein was nevertheless forced to re-examine his criticism of capitalism, a process which ultimately led to the more differentiated and convincing portrayal to be found in Willenbrock.

    Borstal Boy Punk Rock Opera

Borstal Boy is a punk rock opera of the true story as told in the book Converted on LSD and Borstal Boys. It tells of two brothers Michael and David Clarke who were born in Oldham. They became criminals in the 60's and were sent to prison for malicious wounding and carrying a fire arm without a license. Michael, the elder brother, served time in HMP Maidstone prison and had a great influence over David even when he served his time in Dover Borstal. On there release from prison David had a three year career of undetected crime until he was arrested, but not by the police. He had a bad experience on LSD during which time he called out to God for help and Jesus spoke to him. He turned his life around, learned to read in order to educate himself and then confessed to the police 24 crime that he had committed since leaving Dover Borstal in 1968. He then went on to higher education, became a baptists minister and taught electrons for over 20 years in colleges of Further and Higher Education.Meanwhile, Michael was unaffected by David's conversion from crime to Christ and continued his flamboyant lifestyle, only to be arrested 25 years later, and was sent to prison for 16 years in the Philippines where he died of Tuberculosis. The story relates that Michael too turned his life around from crime to Christ, after reading C.S. Lewes's book Mere Christianity and they then worked together seeking to help in the reformation of other former criminals.
