There is a Light That Never Goes Out
Whilst dealing with the affairs of his recently deceased mother, Peter comes across letters addressed to him from Helen who, at the time, was the love of his life. The letters had been deliberately hidden from him by his mother intent on destroying their relationship. She succeeded in breaking their relationship and their hearts. Peter has not spoken to Helen in 35 years. What does Peter do now with this knowledge? Does he try to contact Helen? There is a light in Peter for Helen that has never gone out but is the same true for Helen? What effect will such contact have upon her, her relationship, or upon his own marriage?Written entirely in verse, the story takes us back to their teenage years from nervous first dates to the quiet intimacy of shared experiences all set against an 80's musical backdrop. Fast forward to Peter in the present day as he considers these life changing choices. The spare yet powerful verse captures the power of their early liaison along with the magnitude of decisions taken today.David Stead was born into a working-class Yorkshire family. His grounded upbringing provided stability although a lack of siblings left gaps in social interaction affecting his feelings throughout his life. His passion for writing and exploring emotion through poetry has been a constant, driven by events both experienced and denied. This is David's eighth published book.
