    The Centerpiece

This comic, fun sketch focuses on the idea of people refusing to admit the reality of Christ, even though they are confronted with much evidence. The evidence, in this case, is a huge cross that has come through the roof and crashed through the dining room table. It is Easter Sunday, a family is having dinner, but refuses to even acknowledge the obvious. A friend from Dad's work arrives for dinner and can't believe what he sees, and cannot fathom why nobody speaks of it. When he finally mentions the word "cross," he is rebuked by the family. The friend discovers this has happened before-frequently at Easter and Christmas. But the family has learned if they don't mention the cross, it will disappear. Until next time.

This sketch was written following the September 11th attack and focuses on the issue of racial prejudice. Ken returns home from work and asks his wife, Erin, if the insurance adjuster showed up. Erin says yes, but confesses she didn't let him look at the roof-"He was middle-eastern!" Ken is frustrated by her reaction-"They aren't all terrorists"-and Erin is largely embarrassed. A friend, Sandy, enters to pick up her girls who are playing with Erin's girls. She has a darker skin color, and recounts a story of prejudice she's just experienced in the grocery store. Erin responds sympathetically to her friend and realizes full-well that she too has judged a stranger based solely on the color of his skin.

    A Change of Life

As Holly enters the living room with a basket of clothes that need folding, her husband, Pete, complains about a seemingly insignificant issue. Pete has been on reserve with his employer for two weeks and Holly isn't used to his presence. Although he's trying to help around the house, he has thrown off Holly's rhythm and change is difficult for her. Pete then suggests a small change in the way she does the laundry, illustrating that sometimes, "Change can be a good thing."

    Memorable Laundry

Sarah has been spending the weekend with her grandma. As grandma folds laundry, Sarah sits at a card table, painting pictures and occasionally helping with the task at hand. Collecting treasures, like the items left in Grandpa's pockets and a dryer sheet that smells like Grandma, also preoccupies Sarah's mind. This soon leads to Grandma sharing stories about her past, specifically about the years during World War II, and the things that they did to support and remember those loved ones who served and sometimes made the ultimate sacrifice. Sarah's mother Jackie arrives, in a bit of a hurry, to collect Sarah, pick up the family dog at the kennel, and return home. Sarah is less than cooperative, resulting in some tension between all three. Ultimately, Jackie acquiesces and allows Sarah to stay and share a bit more time with Grandma, to remember and honor those who have served and currently serve our nation.
