Le Horla
« Le Horla » de Guy de Maupassant est une nouvelle fantastique publiée en 1887. L'histoire se déroule en Normandie, près de Rouen, et suit un narrateur anonyme qui tient un journal intime sur une période de quatre mois, du 8 mai au 10 septembre.Le récit débute lorsque le narrateur, vivant dans une maison de campagne, commence à ressentir un malaise inexplicable. Il est progressivement envahi par une présence invisible qu'il nomme « le Horla ». Cette entité semble prendre le contrôle de son esprit et de son corps, le plongeant dans un état de terreur et de paranoïa croissantes.Au fil du temps, le narrateur tente de comprendre et de combattre cette présence. Il entreprend un voyage pour s'en débarrasser, mais à son retour, les phénomènes étranges s'intensifient. Il observe des objets bouger seuls, des pages se tourner, et son reflet disparaître momentanément dans le miroir.Convaincu de l'existence de cette créature invisible, le narrateur cherche désespérément à s'en débarrasser. Dans un acte final de désespoir, il incendie sa propre maison, tuant accidentellement ses domestiques. Cependant, persuadé que le Horla a survécu aux flammes, le narrateur envisage le suicide comme ultime recours.Maupassant utilise cette histoire pour explorer les thèmes de la folie, de l'angoisse existentielle et des limites de la raison humaine face à l'inconnu.
