Aenne Biermann

Bereits 1928 wies Franz Roh auf die "beachtenswerte" Fotokünstlerin Aenne Biermann (1898-1933) hin, die mit ihren Nahaufnahmen von Pflanzen die Aufmerksamkeit der Fachwelt auf sich zog. In den folgenden Jahren entwickelte sich die Autodidaktin zu einer bedeutenden Künstlerin der fotografischen Moderne, die in ihren Arbeiten mit Nahsichten, extremen Ausschnitten und Beleuchtungskontrasten eine eindringliche und ästhetisch faszinierende Bilderwelt schuf. Ihre Motive fand sie meist in unmittelbarer Umgebung: Neben zahlreichen Stillleben aus Gegenständen des täglichen Gebrauchs sowie Naturaufnahmen fotografierte sie immer wieder ihre Kinder, deren Objektwelt und Aktivitäten.Viele Originale gingen im Zweiten Weltkrieges verloren, einige der 60 Fotos dieser Publikation gehören dazu. Der autorisierte Reprint des Bandes, ergänzt durch einen Beitrag des Biermann-Kenners Hans-Michael Koetzle, ist eine Hommage an eine der großen Fotokünstlerinnen der Moderne.
