The play is about the decrepit body and ageing, time and memories, life and death. Il mistero della fede
Nel 2013, Jon Fosse si è convertito al cattolicesimo. Dopo essersi dimesso dalla Chiesa di Norvegia per protesta a sedici anni, in seguito ha ritrovato la sua strada verso una visione religiosa del mondo attraverso la scrittura. Affascinato prima dallo gnosticismo e dal misticismo cristiano, quindi attratto dal movimento quacchero, si è infine convertito al cattolicesimo. Che cosa è successo lungo questo percorso? Narratore e drammaturgo tra i più rappresentati al mondo, Jon Fosse in più occasioni ha affermato che la poesia è il fondamento di tutto ciò che scrive. Essenzialmente poeta, dunque, e autore di una vasta opera che condivide una lingua poetica fatta di ritmo, musica, pause, confronto con il silenzio: "In poesia e in prosa ho cercato di scrivere ciò che solitamente - nel linguaggio parlato comune - non può essere espresso a parole" (dal discorso tenuto da Fosse in occasione del conferimento del Premio Nobel). La scrittura di Fosse è preghiera, ascolto di qualcosa che proviene da posti misteriosi e non meglio identificati. I suoi testi poetici, composti in una lingua scarna ed essenziale, in cui i piani temporali si sovrappongono, e passato e presente coesistono, sono colmi di riferimenti religiosi e hanno un ritmo che riproduce quello dell'acqua, delle onde. Tra i suoi temi più frequenti, la morte e la religione ed è costante la presenza dei luoghi e dei paesaggi geografici e culturali, a cominciare dalla lingua utilizzata, della costa occidentale della Norvegia: i fiordi, la rimessa delle barche, il fienile, il vento e, su tutto, la luce, che proviene da fonti innumerevoli, dal buio, da una barca, "e che attraversa i giorni e le notti/ come un cane/ che si fa strada annusando/ è lì che siamo noi/ e che esistiamo". La ragazza sul divano
Al centro della scena una donna di mezza età cerca di dipingere il ritratto di una ragazza seduta su un divano, lei stessa in anni passati. A poco a poco le si affiancano la stessa ragazza e altre figure della sua famiglia: la madre con la quale ha sempre avuto un pessimo rapporto, la sorella sessualmente disinibita che tanto ha invidiato, il padre marinaio che tanto ha amato, lo zio che ne ha preso il posto accanto alla madre in una situazione amletica. Al centro c'è una scena primaria: 'Succede. Perché si vede una cosa e poi non si riesce più a scordarla' dice la donna a un certo punto. Ma davvero la questione del tradimento della madre è il motore di tutto, o è un alibi che spiega solo parzialmente il fatto di non essere 'molto brava a vivere'? La forza di questa pièce sta nei tempi mescolati: tutto sulla scena accade in modo simultaneo creando una serie di cortocircuiti esistenziali e rappresentativi molto spiazzanti. Le battute tra i personaggi del presente e quelli del passato non dialogano ma si richiamano per echi. 'In un certo senso anche la vita è un'eternità' dice ancora la donna. Il tempo è il vero protagonista, ma è rappresentato come una gabbia paralizzante da cui non si esce. Tutto è fissato una volta per sempre e le opzioni per lacerare questo teatro di ripetizioni (accettare le proposte di un uomo innamorato, andare a vedere la madre morente) vengono sistematicamente e coerentemente rifiutate. Questo testo teatrale del Premio Nobel, scritto nel 2002 per il Festival di Edimburgo, viene messo in scena da Valerio Binasco, debutto al Carignano di Torino nel marzo 2024. Un'occasione per conoscere la drammaturgia dello scrittore norvegese attraverso uno dei suoi testi più acclamati e più rappresentati nel mondo.
