    Vibrio Parahemolyticus (VP) kommt häufig im Meerwasser und in Meeresfrüchten vor. Menschen, die mit VP kontaminierte Lebensmittel verzehren, leiden häufig unter Bauchschmerzen, Durchfall, Übelkeit, Erbrechen, Fieber, Schwindel, Kopfschmerzen und anderen Symptomen. In den letzten Jahren hat sich VP zum häufigsten Erreger von lebensmittelbedingten Erkrankungen in China und der Provinz Guangdong entwickelt. Zhapo ist ein typischer Küstenort in der Provinz Guangdong, der reich an Meeresfrüchten ist und in dem es häufig zu Lebensmittelvergiftungen durch VP kommt. Seit 2008 kam es jedes Jahr zu Lebensmittelvergiftungen durch VP, wobei zwischen 2010 und 2011 insgesamt 9 Vorfälle zu verzeichnen waren.
