The Great Disconnect
The Great Disconnect: The Paradox of India's Economic Growth and Employment Crisis, examines the paradox of India's remarkable economic growth alongside persistent employment challenges, revealing the complex dynamics of what the author terms "the great disconnect" between development and suitable work opportunities. Drawing on extensive research and policy experience, Professor K.P. Kannan explores how India's economic reforms have created a troubling divergence between GDP growth and quality employment generation. The book provides critical insights into jobless growth patterns, the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on workers, persistent wage inequalities, and the marginalisation of women and less-educated workers in rural areas. Through detailed analysis of employment elasticity, informal sector dynamics, and social security gaps, Kannan demonstrates how the majority of India's workforce remains trapped in precarious employment without basic protections. The study extends beyond national boundaries to examine similar challenges across the Global South, particularly within BRICS countries, whilst proposing strategies for organising informal workers and achieving inclusive development. This authoritative work will be essential reading for development economists, labour specialists, policy makers, and researchers examining employment challenges in emerging economies in the Global South. It provides valuable insights for international development agencies, government officials, labour organisations, and academics studying the intersection of economic growth and social development in contemporary India and the broader developing world.

Chitosan From Endophytic Fungi
Among the novel families of biological macromolecules, whose relevance is becoming increasingly evident, are chitin and its main derivative, chitosan. Chitin and chitosan are two polysaccharides which are found to be present within the cell walls of most species of fungi. Chitin (poly-N-acetyl glucosamine) is the second most abundant natural polymer in nature after cellulose. This polymer is found in a wide range of natural sources, such as crustaceans, insects, annelids, mollusks, coelenterates and is a common constituent of fungal cell walls and structural membranes of mycelia, stalks, and spores. The endophytes were isolated from four medicinal plants viz. Adathoda zeylanica (Clarke and Bennet), Coleus aromaticus (Benth), Myrica nagi (Thunb) and Vitex nugundo (Linn). The edophtic fungi selected for this study were Aspergillus flavus, Botryodiplodia theobromae, Cladosporium cladosporioides, Fusarium Sp. and Phoma Sp. Chitosan was extracted from the fungal mycelia using alkaline (NaOH) and acid (acetic acid) treatments. The amounts extracted were 57mg/g, 25.2mg/g and 31.1mg/g respectively. The chitosan was analyzed by FTIR spectroscopy and its spectra were recorded.

Interrogating Inclusive Growth
Poverty and Inequality in IndiaThis volume critiques the much-touted claim that market-friendly economic reform policies in India willtrickle down to the poor and help reduce poverty and deprivation. The author provides an exclusive and empirical perspective in linking employment, poverty and inequality, with regard to the impact of the high-growth performance of the Indian economy since the early 1990s.
