    The Prophet

The sea that calls all things unto her calls me, and I must embark. One of the best known and most translated works of free-verse poetry ever published in the English language, The Prophet, by Lebanon-born Kahlil Gibran, tells the story of the prophet Almustafa, who was banished from his homeland and who has lived the last twelve years of his life as a refugee among the good people of Orphalese. One day, as he prepares to board the ship that will take him home, Almustafa addresses a gathering of townspeople who have come to see him off. His parting words of wisdom about the human condition reveal him to be a man who sees deeply into the hearts, minds, and souls of his peers. While remaining faithful to the original text, the script adaptation by A. David Lewis provides backstory details that provide greater insight into the enigmatic main character. And the illustrations by Justin Rentería, inspired by a 1920s Ottoman style, are vibrant, authentic, and skillfully paced. Appearing exactly one hundred years after the original 1923 publication of Gibran's masterpiece, and at a time when entire groups of people are being forced to seek refuge elsewhere, this fresh and visually compelling rendering of The Prophet conveys the original work's bracing and inspirational message about what it means to live well in today's world.

    Jesus the Son of Man

"Jesus the Son of Man" is a profound and poetic exploration of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, written by the celebrated author of "The Prophet", Kahlil Gibran. In this evocative work, Gibran reimagines the story of Jesus through the eyes of seventy-seven contemporaries who encountered him-friends and enemies, disciples and skeptics alike. Through these diverse perspectives, figures such as Mary Magdalen, Pontius Pilate, and various shepherds and scholars offer their intimate impressions of the Galilean, painting a vivid and multi-faceted portrait of a man who was both deeply human and transcendently divine. Written with the lyrical beauty and philosophical depth for which Gibran is renowned, the work transcends traditional religious narrative to explore universal themes of love, compassion, and the human spirit. The prose captures the majesty of the ancient landscape while focusing on the emotional and social impact of Jesus's presence on those around him. This collection of fictionalized testimonies offers readers a unique contemplative experience, blending historical atmosphere with timeless spiritual insights. "Jesus the Son of Man" remains a significant piece of 20th-century literature, inviting readers to reflect on the enduring legacy of a figure whose message continues to resonate across cultures and centuries. Il profeta. Testo inglese a fronte

About his language in general (horm in Arabic and Pinglish), Salma Khadra Jayyusi remarks that "because of the spiritual and universal aspect of his general themes, he seems to have chosen a vocabulary less idiomatic than would normally have been chosen by a modern poet conscious of modemism in language." According to Jean Gibran and Kahlil G. Gibran, "Ignoring mach of the traditional vocabulary and form of classical Arabic, he began to develop a style which reflected the ordinary language he had heard as a child in Besharri and to which he was still exposed in the South End of Boston). This use of the colloquial was more a product of his isolation than of a specific intent, but it appealed to thousands of Arab immigrants,
