Frits Peutz 1896-1974
Beeldbepalend architectDit boek presenteert het eigenzinnige oeuvre en leven van de Groningse architect Frits Peutz. Voor de Tweede Wereldoorlog vestigde hij zich in Zuid- Limburg, om daar onwaarschijnlijk veel te bouwen. Onverstoorbaar werkte hij aan een repertoire dat inmiddels internationaal in hoog aanzien staat. Een van zijn meest iconische projecten is het Raadhuis van Heerlen, inmiddels een rijksmonument. Na het Huis op de Linde, het Retraitehuis en het Glaspaleis was dit zijn vierde project voor de stad. Als ‘romantisch rationalist’ was Peutz een inspiratiebron voor architecten als Jo Coenen, Wiel Arets, Wim van den Bergh en Francine Houben. Het Raadhuis, in 2023 gerenoveerd en uitgebreid tot nieuw Stadskantoor door architectenbureau Mecanoo, was het eerste gemeentehuis dat tevens een bestemming kreeg als expositieruimte voor beeldende kunst.
