Monochrome - Antonis PittasThe publication 'jaune, geel, gelb, yellow. Monochrome' discusses the failure, collapse and historicization of the modernist ideals espoused by Theo van Doesburg, set against the current political backdrop of mass protest. It brings together writers from a variety of fields who reflect on the legacy and failures of modernism from the perspective of their individual backgrounds and expertise. Edited by Lisa Bakker and Eleonoor Jap Sam. With text contributions by (poet) Maria Barnas, (poet) I.K. Bonset, (curator) Laurie Cluitmans, (philosopher) Johan F. The book is an extension of Pittas’ residency and research at the Van Doesburghuis in 2019, coincided with the yellow vests protest, where Pittas turned the Van Doesburghuis into a performative crime scene. The murder of modernity. Based on this project, the Centraal Museum in Utrecht invited Pittas for a solo exhibition, where he curated works of Theo Van Doesburg and juxtaposed them with his work as a staged scenography of dialogue. The installation looks at the heritage of De Stijl through the current political lenses. Antonis Pittas (1973, Athens) is a visual artist who lives and works in Amsterdam. He is an honorary fellow in the faculty of humanities at the University of Amsterdam, where he conducts research and produces work under the heading Recycling History (Contemporising History/Historicising the Contemporary). His artistic practice focuses on contemporary social and political issues, exploring topics such safety and control, economic crises and acts of resistance, as well as violence and vandalism.

Helen Verhoeven, Schamerkat
In de Hermitage Amsterdam is van 29 maart 2019 tot en met 5 januari 2020 Schamerkat te zien, een presentatie van beeldend kunstenaar Helen Verhoeven. Verhoeven (Leiden, 1974), is de winnaar van de achtste editie van de ABN AMRO Kunstprijs, een stimuleringsprijs voor talent in Nederland. Verhoeven kreeg als onderdeel van de prijs de gelegenheid een jaar te werken aan een presentatie in de Hermitage Amsterdam. Met de installatie Schamerkat refereert Verhoeven aan de tentoonstelling De schatkamer! met topstukken uit de collectie van de Hermitage in Sint-Petersburg. In die collecties ligt de nadruk op schoonheid en creativiteit, wereldwijd en door alle eeuwen heen. Het inspireerde Verhoeven tot het maken van een eigen, zeer diverse microverzameling. Maar met de woordspeling Schamerkat roept ze ook andere associaties op: de titel doet denken aan schaamte en schemer en de donkere kant van het bestaan.

The past inside the present
Art is artificial; it is a fake version of reality. The imagery of art represents, illustrates suggests and provides stillness- it sharpens our perspectives and deepens the experience of reality. Rokin Fountain Mark Manders
This publication is about a newly placed sculptural fountain that Dutch artist Mark Manders designed for the city of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Besides texts and images covering the history of the fountain's central location in the city, and the entire process of its creation, the book also includes an essay by Maria Barnas about movement in the work of Manders. An impression of the final result, photographed by Jan Kempenaers, completes the portrait of this new public work.

Based in Berlin, Dutch visual artist Helen Verhoeven's works often explore the theme of ceremonial gatherings. The focus of this book is her monumental painting, 'Hoge Raad' ('Supreme Court'), which hangs in that same institution in The Hague. According to the essay by Maria Barnas, "Rarely have I seen anything so theatrical, so time-transcending and majestic, and at the same time so everyday." Tension pervades the work, with the positioning of various figures lending it a theatrical aspect. This book contains a 1:1 reproduction of the painting: each page shows a surface segment, set in the sequence of a mapped grid. Also included is an index of the painting's historical references.

Mark Manders reference book
Dutch artist Mark Manders - who will represent the Netherlands at the 55th Venice Biennale in 2012 - was awarded the Heineken Prize for Art 2012. The jury praised him "for his ability to create a personal world with a distinct visual language that both intrigues and becomes fixed in the memory." On the occasion of this award, Roma Publications compiled this almost encyclopedic book which covers Manders' entire oeuvre from the late 1980s until the present. It contains facsimiles of the artist's publications and a focus on a large number of recent, never-published works.
