Portraits of Generalship and Authority in the Age of Justinian
Warfare was a defining feature of the reign of the Roman Emperor Justinian (r. 527-565). His extensive military campaigns spanned multiple fronts, including conflicts in the East against the Persians and in the West against the Vandals in North Africa, as well as the Ostrogoths and Franks in Italy and the Visigoths in Spain. Across the Mediterranean during this period, influential generals and military leaders both Roman and non-Roman played increasingly prominent roles in both military affairs and civil governance. This volume is the first to bring together a comprehensive study of sixth-century Roman and non-Roman generals. While contemporary analyses often drew upon traditional Graeco-Roman ideals of leadership, this era also witnessed notable innovations in military and political authority. To explore these transformations, each chapter focuses on either Roman or non-Roman generals, adopting a broad geographical perspective to compare major military figures in the late antique Roman world. Through this comparative approach, the volume highlights significant social and political developments in the late antique Mediterranean world. It will appeal to scholars and readers interested in the military, political, and social history of Late Antiquity, as well as those working in the fields of History, Gender Studies, War Studies, Political Science, and Ancient History.

Intercultural Screen Adaptation
'The global reach of this collection is insightful and informative. Viewing adaptation as "encounter, journey, method" in the context of international film-making enables us to explore important and pressing questions of global flow and complex (trans)national identities.'Julie Sanders, Newcastle UniversityIntercultural Screen Adaptation offers a wide-ranging examination of how film and television adaptations (and non-adaptations) interact with the cultural, social and political environments of their national, transnational and post-national contexts. With screen adaptations examined from across Britain, Europe, South America and Asia, the book tests how examining the processes of adaptation across and within national frameworks can challenge traditional debates around the concept of nation in film, media and cultural studies.Case studies of films such as Under the Skin (2013) and T2: Trainspotting (2017), as well as TV adaptations like War and Peace (2016) and Narcos (2015-17) offer readers an invigorating look at adaptations from a variety of critical perspectives, incorporating the uses of landscape, nostalgia and translation.Michael Stewart is Senior Lecturer in Film at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. Zebrafish Protocols for Neurobehavioral Research
Zebrafish (Danio rerio) play an integral role in biomedical research, enabling researchers to examine physiological mechanisms and pathways relevant to human pathogenesis and its therapy. That, along with their low cost, easy manipulation, short reproductive cycles, and physiological homology to humans, has made zebrafish a vital model organism for neuroscience research. Zebrafish Protocols for Neurobehavioral Research addresses protocols for both larval and adult models, written by the leading experts in the field of zebrafish research. Part I of this book takes advantage of the high-throughput nature of larval models to offer protocols for research requiring high output, easily manipulated screens. The second half of the book focuses on the robust and sophisticated behaviors of adult zebrafish, suitable for the neurophenotyping of complex traits and multi-domain disorders. Importantly, these models complement each other, working together to provide researchers with valuable insights into neurobiology of normal and pathological behavior. Thorough and cutting-edge, this volume is a useful, authoritative reference guide that should hold a coveted spot in zebrafish laboratories across the globe.
