The Fortress
Dries VerhoevenThis publication accompanies the Dutch entry for the 61st edition of La Biennale di Venezia. Dries Verhoeven presents The Fortress. In collaboration with curator Rieke Vos, Verhoeven brings performance art to the Dutch Pavilion and makes the building itself part of the work through an architectural installation. This publication contains texts by Dries Verhoeven and Rieke Vos, alongside contributions by Bas Heijne, Maurits de Bruijn and Eric Otieno Sumba. La Biennale di Venezia runs from 9 May to 22 November 2026. Deze publicatie verschijnt ter gelegenheid van de Nederlandse inzending voor de 61e editie van La Biennale di Venezia. Dries Verhoeven presenteert The Fortress. In samenwerking met curator Rieke Vos brengt Verhoeven performancekunst naar het Nederlands paviljoen en maakt hij het gebouw zelf onderdeel van het werk door middel van een architectonische installatie. Deze uitgave bevat teksten van Dries Verhoeven en Rieke Vos, naast bijdragen van auteurs Bas Heijne, Maurits de Bruijn en Eric Otieno Sumba. La Biennale di Venezia vindt plaats van 9 mei tot en met 22 november 2026.

Prix de Rome
Beeldende Kunst / Visual Arts 2025De Prix de Rome Beeldende Kunst is de stimuleringsprijs voor talentvolle beeldend kunstenaars uit Nederland en het Caribisch deel van het Koninkrijk. Om het jaar wordt deze prijs uitgereikt om de ontwikkeling van bijzonder getalenteerde beeldend kunstenaars te stimuleren, hun zichtbaarheid te vergroten en daarmee het beeldende kunstveld te blijven actualiseren. De genomineerden voor de Prix de Rome 2025 zijn Fiona Lutjenhuis, Kevin Osepa, Thierry Oussou en Buhlebezwe Siwani. Deze publicatie verschijnt parallel aan de tentoonstelling van hun werk in het Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Curator Nadia Abdelkaui introduceert de Kunstenaars, terwijl auteurs Laurie Cluitmans, Amira Gad, Kelly-ann van Steveninck en Daria Tuminas met hen in gesprek gaan. In het juryrapport licht de jury haar keuze voor de winnaar toe.

CATPC The International Celebration of Blasphemy and the Sacred
La célébration internationale du Blasphème et du SacréThe Dutch entry for the 60th edition of La Biennale di Venezia is provided by artist collective Cercle d'Art des Travailleurs de Plantation Congolaise (CATPC) together with artist Renzo Martens and curator Hicham Khalidi. The exhibition at the Dutch Pavilion in the Giardini is twinned with a presentation at the White Cube in Lusanga (DRC) and is part of CATPC’s ongoing commitment to reclaim land to reintroduce biodiversity, regenerate the soil and provide sustenance for the community in Congo. This publication (in both English and French) includes a main text written by curator Hicham Khalidi and a series of letters written by Ced’art Tamasala on behalf of CATPC. Khalidi wrote his text in close collaboration with writer Amanda Sarroff, CATPC and Renzo Martens and draws on interviews with renowned authors and curators such as Ariella Aïsha Azoulay, Ruba Katrib and Ndubuisi C. Ezeluomba. The publication also includes an introduction by Mondriaan Fund director Eelco van der Lingen and contains extensive visual documentation of both the sculptures and video works in the Dutch pavilion in Venice as well as the sculptures in Lusanga.

2023 Prix de Rome
Beeldende kunstKunstenaars Ghita Skali, Jonas Staal, Josefin Arnell en Michael Tedja zijn de genomineerden voor de Prix de Rome Beeldende Kunst 2023. Vanaf 14 oktober 2023 is hun werk te zien in de gelijknamige tentoonstelling in het Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. De bijbehorende publicatie bevat gesprekken tussen de genomineerden en diverse auteurs uit het binnen- en buitenland. Daarnaast wordt de tentoonstelling ingeleid door curator Amanda Pinatih en bevat het boek een essay door Dominique van Varsseveld. De Prix de Rome is dé stimuleringsprijs voor talentvolle beeldend kunstenaars uit Nederland en het Caribisch deel van het Koninkrijk en bestaat sinds 1808. Het doel van de Prix de Rome is de ontwikkeling van bijzonder getalenteerde beeldend kunstenaars te stimuleren, hun zichtbaarheid te vergroten en daarmee het beeldende kunstveld te blijven actualiseren. De prijs wordt sinds 2012 georganiseerd en gefinancierd door het Mondriaan Fonds. Op 31 oktober 2023 wordt de winnaar van de Prix de Rome Beeldende Kunst 2023 bekend gemaakt in het Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Acht auteurs over de ontwikkeling van fotografie binnen de beeldende kunstScherpstellen is een bundel van acht essays geschreven door toonaangevende conservatoren, critici, fotografen en kunstenaars uit de wereld van de fotografie en beeldende kunst. In opdracht van het Mondriaan Fonds betogen de auteurs welke ontwikkelingen wenselijk zijn voor fotografie als kunstvorm. Hans den Hartog Jager, Kim Knoppers, Amanda Maddox, Marwan Magroun, Katja Mater, Anne Ruygt, Vincent van Velsen en Joke de Wolf geven elk op eigen wijze antwoord op de vraag: waar staat fotografie vandaag binnen de beeldende kunst en hoe verder? De invalshoeken lopen uiteen: van een oproep tot meer debat en een pleidooi voor fluïde vormen van fotografie tot het wijzen op de verantwoordelijkheid van beeld ten opzichte van mens en wereld. Scherpstellen is de 15e publicatie in de essayreeks van het Mondriaan Fonds. Het fonds brengt regelmatig essays uit van schrijvers, denkers en bemiddelaars over actuele onderwerpen binnen de beeldende kunst en erfgoed.

Prix de Rome 2022
Architectuur / ArchitectureThe theme of the Prix de Rome Architecture 2022 is Healing Sites. At a time when labour inequality and climate issues have resulted in a demand for change, this edition of the Prix de Rome Architecture calls to rethink and redesign spatial practices. Architecture has been complicit in establishing the ecocidal legacies of capitalism, colonialism, and imperialism. How can architects, urbanists, and landscape architects reflect upon and rearticulate their working methods in order to undo these legacies? The international professional jury of the Prix de Rome (Carson Chan, Alessandra Covini, Afaina de Jong, Jan Jongert, and Dirk Sijmons, chaired by Syb Groeneveld) has selected four nominees out of 53 anonymous entries for the shortlist of the Prix de Rome Architecture 2022. The nominees are Arna Mačkić, Dividual (Andrea Bit and Maciej Wieczorkowski), Lesia Topolnyk, and Studio KIWI (Kim Kool and Willemijn van Manen). For this publication the architects were interviewed by authors Marieke Berkers and Mark Minkjan. Ola Hassanain, who leads a critical spatial practice as a visual artist and trained architect, wrote the keynote essay. The Prix de Rome is the oldest prize in the Netherlands for architects younger than 35. This year the prize is organized by the Mondriaan Fund in collaboration with the Creative Industries Fund NL and Het Nieuwe Instituut, on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. Het thema van de Prix de Rome Architectuur 2022 is Healing Sites.
