Faszination 19. Jahrhundert / Fascination 19th Century

This catalogue pays tribute to the artist Sven Drühl as a collector and theorist. For more than twenty years, he has been exhibiting his conceptual landscape paintings, neons and bronzes in institutional exhibitions. Now, for the first time, the Hans Erni Museum Lucerne and the Museum Wiesbaden are showing Drühl's collection of nineteenth-century paintings alongside his works: from Eugen Bracht to Janus La Cour and Carl Spitzweg. Another key aspect is Drühl's theoretical work, in which he has made a name for himself, as a guest editor of Kunstforum International and as the author of numerous articles on art history. SVEN DRÜHL (*1968, Nassau) studied art and mathematics. He became internationally known through his compilations of famous landscape paintings. With a PhD in art theory, he is also an author and editor of publications on contemporary art.

Wir ist Zukunft. Visionen neuer Gemeinschaften kreist um die Sehnsucht nach einer idealen Gemeinschaft, eines harmonischen Lebens mit der Natur und miteinander. Das Buch blickt in sechs Kapiteln auf 120 Jahre künstlerische Visionen des Zusammenlebens: Ausgehend von der Lebensreformbewegung um 1900, über die visionären Architekturentwürfe von Bruno Taut oder Wenzel Hablik zu Constants Stadtutopie New Babylon, in deren Zentrum der spielerische Mensch stehen sollte; vom Hippie-Modernismus der 1960er-Jahre, über den Afrofuturismus bis zu zeitgenössischen Positionen, die eine Symbiose aller Lebewesen in und mit der Natur anregen. Letterpress Printing

Letterpress Printing: Past, Present, Future brings together scholars, curators, collectors and printers to assess the current state of letterpress printing. It acknowledges the decline of letterpress as a commercial printing technique and considers the risks this poses for letterpress¿s future. However, in describing the many uses to which letterpress is put and the diverse communities of printers who still work with it, the book celebrates the tenacity of letterpress as a process which continues to thrive despite such challenges. Letterpress Printing examines the continuing life of letterpress and applauds its revival through describing the circumstances in which it flourishes and the many ways it is now used. By setting this revival in the context of its ostensible decline, the book sets out the ways in which current practice draws upon and preserves the history of printing while taking it in new and unexpected directions.
