Chibli Mallat is Presidential Professor of Law Emeritus at the University of Utah. Previous publications include The Renewal of Islamic Law (Cambridge,1993), which won the Middle East Studies Association's Albert Hourani Award, Philosophy of Nonviolence (2015), and Democracy Redefined (2025). As the lawyer of the Sadr family, he established the responsibility of Muammar Qaddafi for the disappearance of Musa Sadr in Libya in 1978.
