Introduction to descriptive statistics and probability

This document aims to introduce students to the basic principles of statistics and probability calculations. The course primarily aims to introduce and encourage reflection on the fundamental concepts and elementary methods of statistics to enable subsequent independent learning of complementary methods. We aim to develop the critical thinking necessary when implementing and interpreting a statistical analysis. To this end, we will introduce and use a rigorous mathematical framework. We will provide as many examples and figures as necessary to achieve a better understanding of the course. Descriptive statistics aims to study a phenomenon based on data. This description is done through the presentation of data (as concise as possible), their graphical representation, and the calculation of numerical summaries. The place of this course in the students' future careers:¿ Provide high school graduates with the necessary tools to process data related to manage-ment statistically and as rigorously as possible.¿ Provide all those who are called upon to communicate with statistics specialists with the knowledge necessary for a good understanding and effective use of different methods.
