Nicolas Mathieu (1978) is geboren in Épinal, Frankrijk. Na zijn studies geschiedenis en filmwetenschap verhuisde hij naar Parijs waar hij zich bezighield met verschillende educatieve projecten. Nu woont hij in Nancy waar hij werkt en schrijft. In 2014 werd zijn eerste boek gepubliceerd, dat ook bewerkt is tot tv-serie. Voor zijn roman De uitzichtlozen ontving hij de Prix Goncourt 2018.
