Reds
Reds tells the global history of communism, going beyond the turmoil of the 20th century, and exploring communist ideas, movements, and regimes. It starts in antiquity, not in 1917. It centres not just on the obvious leaders and thinkers but asks how the idealism of millions of working-class activists could lead to their acquiescence in mass murder, repression and social atomisation. A fact whose legacy - unfortunately - is alive and kicking in both Russia and China today. Paul Mason's startling new book will argue that the desire to live without hierarchy and property is an impulse deeply rooted in our human nature. Reds traces the history of communist ideas through revolts in the ancient and medieval worlds, and chronicles the rise of 19th century anti-capitalist movements. Using first hand testimonies of both the perpetrators and the victims, Mason gives a new and terrifying account of how the 20th century experiment in communism turned into a totalitarian nightmare. But, he argues, the story is not over. Western democracies are stagnant and lacking self-belief. Looming climate chaos demands radical economic answers. Millions of people in the global south see China's offer of authoritarian, state-led development model as a viable alternative. And among the Western left, new forms of techno-egalitarianism vie with right-wing libertarianism in the battle over the digital future.Reds will be a major analysis as we head into a dangerous new world order where China and Russia threaten major change to the world's democracies.

Come fermare il nuovo fascismo. Storia, ideologia, resistenza
Via Rishikesh
The real life chronicle of a crazy quest, an epic hitchhiking trip, way back when...A trip taken without preparation or proper funds, from England, through Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, to India.*Paul Mason was just 18 years old when the notion of visiting India stirred in him. In order to find money for his travels he began selling off his possessions, but not being able to raise enough ready cash for the flight, he decided instead to hitchhike there, and in this seemingly hare-brained scheme he was accompanied by Yolanda, his Italian girlfriend. Their journey wasn't envisaged simply as a vacation or an adventure, but as a quest, an exploration of both inner and outer life, even as a pilgrimage of sorts, which, totally unexpectedly, resulted in the discovery and exploration of authentic Yoga Meditation.*324 pages, with dozens of illustrations

Faschismus
Was ist Faschismus?

An account of an inspirational visit to Rishikesh, IndiaThere comes a time in most people's lives when they feel a need to get away for a while, take a break, have a rest, get refreshed and revived. And most of us dream, daydream, of having an easy carefree holiday in some exotic location. But usually we don't get around to it, as we neither find the money or the time, nor are we decisive enough to fulfil such wishes, but settle instead for a treat or a weekend trip. When we do actually allow ourselves to have what we think we deserve, we most certainly don't know how things will unfold, whether things will go according to plan, or even that we won't end up regretting our decision.Anyway, a plan is hatched; a few weeks in India, just resting and topping up the batteries, recharging, and rebooting, no sightseeing or racing about..."Gods, gurus and Bollywood film idols gaze down from paper posters hanging above the market place. Brightly coloured bunting and shimmering tinsel decorates the shops and market stalls of Rishikesh. Throngs of people roam about, and all over town the crack, report and tremor of fireworks sound throughout the day and night. The main road is lined with every conceivable trade and filled with honking trucks, buses, taxis and swarms of buzzing motorcycle autorickshaws, all belching fumes, Rishikesh is no longer the quiet holy town of old, which has drawn truth-seekers for countless generations. With only a few days to go before the Hindu New Year, preparation for the celebration of Divali (the festival of lights) is in full swing. Interested in the festival, though I am, the town is too noisy, dirty and busy for my taste. With a view to finding accommodation on the other side of the river, I walk the long busy road that leads out of town."124 pages 48 colour illustrations

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
This ground-breaking biography of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi - the ONLY one of its kind - telling the story of Maharishi and the spread of Transcendental Meditation, is now available by popular demand, in a new, revised, re-invigorated, expanded, up-to-date illustrated paperback version. In this comprehensive biography Paul Mason describes the early days of Maharishi's teachings in the 1950s, the popularization of TM through the 1960's, the presentation of TM in specifically scientific terms, the introduction of the Science of Creative Intelligence (SCI) as well as the introduction of the lesser known aspects of the world's oldest system of healthcare - Ayurveda, and other ancient Indian sciences hitherto almost unheard of that evidently served to enhance the lives of hundreds of thousands of people, and finally the attempts to enter mainstream politics with the Natural Law Party.Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, a very famous son of India, leapt to prominence in the 1960s when his teaching of Transcendental Meditation (TM) and his widely-reported involvement with The Beatles and the Beach Boys provoked reactions from reverence to awe as a singular Indian monk from the Himalayas took the world by storm, having arrived on Western shores with nothing but good intentions. Painstakingly researched, and objectively presented, Paul Mason takes us behind the scenes, drawing on scarce and previously unpublished material.Much more than just a biography, this is a seminal enquiry that draws readers into a more meaningful understanding of their own lives through a deeper look into the aims and methods of Maharishi's organisations. We are taken deep into the Indian tradition of the Vedic scriptures, the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita. This work is also a celebration of Maharishi's life and his initiative to share his very original style of thinking, offering fresh perspectives on age-old themes, and massive optimism for progress and happiness. It is thought that this completely refreshed account of Maharishi's life will be of great interest to all readers, meditators and non-meditators alike.Details: Paperback: 406 pages 95 illustrationsDimensions: Royal size 234mm x 21.1mm x 156mm 9.21" x 0.83" x 6.14"Publisher: Premanand (11 June 2020)Language: English ISBN: 978-0-9562228-5-5

Clear Bright Future
Today, the human race faces a new problem. Thanks to information technology, vast asymmetries of knowledge and power have opened up. Through the screens of our smart devices, corporations and governments know what we're doing, what we're thinking, can predict our next moves and influence our behaviour. We, meanwhile, don't even have the right to know that any of this is going on. As Paul Mason argues in this pyrotechnic new book, all this is intimately connected to the urgent economic, political and moral crises we are living through now.Clear Bright Future explores how, during the preceding decades, the free-market system reduced us to two-dimensional consumers. Underlying the dominance of these forces, Mason contends, is the idea that human values no longer have foundation - an idea that, as we allow the all-pervasive presence of machines in our lives, we are tacitly coming to accept. And, if these forces are not stopped, we will relive something even worse than the 1930s.But there is another way. We have the power to imagine and design a better system, at the heart of which is a radical reassertion of our common humanity. All this, Mason asserts, starts with a simple, fundamental choice. Will we accept the machine control of human beings, or will we resist it?

Postcapitalism
We know that our world is undergoing seismic change-but how can we emerge from the crisis a fairer, more equal society?Over the past two centuries or so, capitalism has undergone profound changes-economic cycles that veer from boom to bust-from which it has always emerged transformed and strengthened. Surveying this turbulent history, Paul Mason's Postcapitalism argues that we are on the brink of a change so big and so profound that this time capitalism itself, the immensely complex system within which entire societies function, will mutate into something wholly new. At the heart of this change is information technology, a revolution that is driven by capitalism but, with its tendency to push the value of much of what we make toward zero, has the potential to destroy an economy based on markets, wages, and private ownership. Almost unnoticed, in the niches and hollows of the market system, swaths of economic life are beginning to move to a different rhythm. Vast numbers of people are changing how they behave and live, in ways contrary to the current system of state-backed corporate capitalism. And as the terrain changes, new paths open. In this bold and prophetic book, Mason shows how, from the ashes of the crisis, we have the chance to create a more socially just and sustainable economy. Although the dangers ahead are profound, he argues that there is cause for hope. This is the first time in human history in which, equipped with an understanding of what is happening around us, we can predict and shape the future.
