Ma chi si è accorto della balia di Giulietta, delle fatine che popolano il mondo incantato del Sogno, di cosa pensavano Mercuzio o Calibano? Innumerevoli sono gli spin-off, le riscritture e i ripensamenti che si irradiano dall'opera di William Shakespeare. Ma questo ciclo firmato da Tim Crouch si cimenta in un'impresa del tutto particolare: cioè nel tentativo di dare voce a chi, nell'opera del Bardo, finora non l'aveva mai avuta. Il volume raccoglie cinque micro o contro-storie per la scena che hanno come protagonisti personaggi considerati "minori" della grande opera shakespeariana, destinate a rovesciare il punto di vista dominante. Tim Crouch is a UK theatre artist based in Brighton. He writes plays, performs in them and takes responsibility for their production. He started to make his own work in 2003. Before then he was an actor. Tim works with a number of associates and collaborators to produce his writing. There isn’t a company structure; things and people are brought together when they are needed. The starting process has always been a text written by Crouch. Early work was made in response to a self-generated impulse to tell a story or explore a form. This impulse is still the first motivation but, lately, it’s become slightly more formalized through the involvement of various commissioning theatres and organizations. Tim’s work tours extensively to UK and international venues and festivals.

An Oak Tree

It circles elegantly around ideas of presence and absence, the real and the representational, doubt and certainty, even time itself ... [It's] one of the shows that has changed our perceptions of what theatre might be ... It’s no dry experiment in form, but an unexpectedly emotional 70 minutes that questions how we perceive and interpret the world and deal with grief and absence ... Like a magician showing us how the trick is done, Crouch doesn’t diminish our belief in what we see, but enhances it. “Do you see nothing there?” asks Hamlet after seeing the ghost. An Oak Tree takes absence and magnifies it until we see the ghosts, too.
