Around the World in Eighty Days
Jules Verne was born in France in 1828 and died in 1905. His collaboration with the publisher Pierre-Jules Hetzel was wildly successful, producing many brilliant novels in the burgeoning genre of science fiction: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Journey to the Centre of the Earth and Around the World in 80 Days, among others. Verne is the second most translated author in the world, after Agatha Christie and before Shakespeare.

The Summer of the Seventeenth Doll
The Summer of the Seventeenth Doll and Other Stories is a collection of short fiction about memory, loss, chance, love, and the strange moments that alter lives forever. A young woman returns from a summer in France carrying a secret she cannot escape. A wartime evacuee dreams of dragons in the hills above the sea. An Englishman in Thailand prepares to leave behind the woman and the life he loves. A painter of doors offers a glimpse into another world. A holiday turns quietly unsettling. Love appears, unexpectedly, through the sound of a voice. Moving between England, France, Thailand, Burma, and imagined inner landscapes, these stories explore lives caught at points of change - sometimes tender, sometimes disturbing, always human. Written with a photographer's eye for atmosphere and detail, this collection brings together tales of longing, regret, mystery, and fragile hope.
