For Goodness Sex
“A breath of much-needed fresh air around a very charged subject.”—Christiane Northrup, M.D., OB/GYN physician and author of the New York Times bestsellers Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom and The Wisdom of Menopause “Vernacchio's no-blame, no-shame approach will inspire parents to drop their fears, judgments, and inhibitions in order to help their kids navigate the teen years.”—Publishers Weekly Updated to reflect societal changes over the past decade, an experienced educator’s effective and responsible guide to sex education for parents and teens that promotes healthy knowledge, values, and positive sexuality. When it comes to talking to kids about sex, parents often don’t know what to say. But our kids are talking—and seeing and listening and learning—about sex every day. Our kids know more about sex than we think they do. But our kids don’t know as much about sex as they think they do. Complicating matters, sexuality education in schools is often locally regulated, leading to medically inaccurate or faith- and abstinence-based curriculums, and in a growing number of states even that meager education is under threat. Enter sexuality educator Al Vernacchio, a teacher for more than thirty years, who has been an advocate of a new category: sex-positive education. In For Goodness Sex, he offers a realistic approach to teaching kids about this basic biological function, with advice and answers that go far beyond just the act itself. After all, Vernacchio argues, without a broader understanding to offset the damaging perceptions of sex that pervade much of our culture, adolescents and teens are unprepared for the complex intellectual and emotional decisions surrounding sex and consent. Thoughtful and expansive, For Goodness Sex offers the tools and information adults and young people need to have important conversations about sexuality and to develop the safe and healthy values that will carry them through the rest of their lives. Vernacchio’s landmark sex-positive approach gives parents the tools they need: The Pizza Model for Sex: A revolutionary, consent-based framework to replace the competitive and flawed ‘baseball model,’ helping teens understand sex as a shared, satisfying experience.Confident Communication Strategies: Scripts and conversation starters for a no-blame, no-shame approach that turns awkward talks into opportunities for connection.Navigating Tough Topics: Clear, practical advice for discussing complex subjects like gender identity, sexual orientation, pornography, and sexting with accuracy and compassion.Values-Based Decision-Making: Guidance on helping your teen develop a strong internal compass for making safe, healthy, and authentic choices about their bodies and relationships.

Secondary School Selection
A British Psychological Society InquirySelection for secondary education at 11-plus still arouses controversy; and the psychological techniques employed, such as intelligence and attainments tests, are criticised. First published in 1957, under the auspices of the BPS, a group of psychologists, experienced in this field, tried to present a balanced survey of the situation at the time.

Adolescence, Sexuality, and the Criminal Law
Multidisciplinary PerspectivesGain an understanding of the threat to freedom that is posed by state regulation of adolescent sexual behaviorSexual autonomy encompasses both the right to engage in wanted sexual activity and the right to be free and protected from unwanted sexual aggression. Only when both aspects of adolescents’ rights are recognized can human sexual dignity be fully respected. In Adolescence, Sexuality, and the Criminal Law, experts from several disciplines use case studies, legal analysis, empirical examinations, and tables and figures to provide you with an insightful contribution to the debate surrounding child sexual abuse.Much has been written about the undisputedly essential fight against child sexual exploitation. In Adolescence, Sexuality, and the Criminal Law, experts investigate for the first time what distinguishes the sexual contacts of adolescents from those of children and why they should be treated separately. This updated version of the papers delivered to the International Association for the Treatment of Sex Offenders in 2002 is an essential guide for lawmakers, sexologists, psychologists, and lawyers interested in an interdisciplinary approach to adolescent sexuality and the criminal law. This resource carefully examines child sexual abuse laws that fail to distinguish between children and adolescents. The text includes discussions of the history of the age of consent, adolescent sexuality, relations between adolescents and adults, and adolescent prostitution and pornography that will leave you better informed about the sexual rights of adolescents and the criminal politics of youth protection.Adolescence, Sexuality, and the Criminal Law examines adolescent sexuality and the various policies that threaten adolescents’ autonomy, including: the question of youthful sexuality and how society has attempted to deal with it recent attempts to deny youthful sexuality through abstinence or changes in the law intergenerational sexual interaction child pornography and much more! As the debate surrounding child sexual abuse laws escalates, the value of this authoritative and timely text will continue to increase. Whether you are a lawmaker, a sexologist, a social worker, a lawmaker, or a lawyer, Adolescence, Sexuality, and the Criminal Law is a resource that you’ll return to again and again as you work to understand the importance of adolescent sexual rights.

Personality Tests and Assessments (Psychology Revivals)
Originally published in 1953 this book provided the first comprehensive account of methods of personality assessment by a British author. It starts with a short survey of personality theory, pointing out the difficulties in any method of testing or assessment. Next it describes the weaknesses of the common interview method. (Throughout the emphasis is on methods which are usable in educational or vocational guidance and selection, not on methods which are mainly of scientific interest.) Thereafter it takes up each main type of technique – tests based on physique or psychological measures, on expressive movement such as gestures and handwriting, tests of behaviour (including War Office Selection Board ‘house party’ methods), ratings and rating scales, questionnaires, and so-called projective techniques. The evidence for or against each test or method is surveyed and numerous references provided for relevant literature. Illustrative excerpts are given of many of the more promising tests, and some pictorial illustrations. British work in this field at the time is covered completely, and an attempt is made to provide a fair summary of the main contributions of American and other psychologists of the day.

The Structure of Human Abilities
First published in 1950, this revised edition of The Structure of Human Abilities was published in 1961, but remained largely unchanged from the original save for an additional supplement on the developments in factorial work on human abilities from 1950-1959. Much research had been carried out during the years leading up to publication, in England and America, into mental abilities; and modern methods of statistical treatment, especially factor analysis, had been increasingly used. It was felt that the mass of diverse material was apt to confuse the student of psychology of the time, especially as the results of such research were often apparently conflicting. Professor Vernon, one of the leading experts in this branch of psychology, sifted the material and attempted to provide a consistent picture of our mental structure.
