Unter dem Titel Das Verhältnis versammelt dieser Band wesentliche Texte des 2017 verstorbenen deutschen Philosophen und Literaturtheoretikers Werner Hamacher, die hier erstmals im Original erscheinen. Entstanden in den zwei Jahrzehnten zwischen den späten 1980er- und den späten 2000er-Jahren, orientieren sich diese Studien primär am Schreiben zweier Denker: Martin Heidegger und Jacques Derrida. Konjunktion und Differenz zugleich, markiert das Aber jenen Umschlagpunkt, an dem Bedeutung sich nicht verwirklicht, sondern verschiebt. Indes liegt darin kein Fatalismus, sondern eine große Chance der Sprache: »Jede Form eines aber, ob Tat oder Thema, kann von einem anderen aber durchkreuzt werden. Aber und abermals.«
