Rotterdam. Architectural Guide
Rotterdam is the second largest city in the Netherlands and prides itself on being its architecture capital. Zu sehen sind u.a. Häuser in Australien und Neuseeland, China, Vietnam, in den USA, in Mexiko, Ecuador und Costa Rica. Im Westen Indiens hat Kamal Malik von Malik Architecture, Mumbai für sich und seine Familie ein unkonventionelles, weitläufiges Haus gebaut, das auf sechs Ebenen an und auf einem Kamm über zwei Schluchten thront und - weil es ohne Wände auszukommen scheint - im permanenten Dialog mit der Landschaft steht. Das Haus der drei Ströme verdankt seinen Namen den Bächen, die beim Starkregen der Monsunzeit durch den als Mehrgenerationenhaus angelegten Komplex schäumen und, durch Treppen, Außengänge und Laufstege überbrückt, geschickt in den Gesamtplan integriert sind. Die Casa de la Encina von Aranguren + Gallegos, ein eleganter, offener und klar strukturierter Betonbau liegt, eingerahmt von Pinien, am südlichen Hang des Monte Abantos nördlich von Madrid und erinnert an einen modernen, großen Aussichtspavillon. Die untere Ebene, in der sich die Schlafräume befinden, ist in Fels eingebettet und bietet wie die obere, in die eine auf dem Baugrund vorgefundene Steineiche integriert wurde, mit Panoramafenstern und Veranden einen fantastischen Ausblick auf die Ebene, die sich von der Sierra de Guadarrama bis Madrid erstreckt. Shinichi Ogawas Haus am Meer ist ein weißes, zweigeschossiges minimalistisches Wunderwerk in Kanagawa mit Blick auf den Stillen Ozean, das zur Straßenseite hin keinerlei Öffnung aufweist, weder Fenster noch Tür. Der Wohnbereich mit seiner Glasfront gen Süden geht in eine freischwebende Terrasse und einen Infinity Pool über, der nahtlos mit dem Meer zu verschmelzen scheint. Diese Wohnhäuser - und über 50 weitere - sind in ihrer Formsprache bemerkenswert individuell, doch sie alle eint die Absicht, eine moderne Vision vom Leben und Wohnen in und mit der Natur zu entwickeln, die Topographie ihrer Umgebung wertzuschätzen und Innen und Außen zu verknüpfen. Alle vorgestellten Projekte sind mit brillanten Architekturfotos, Grundrissen und ausführlichen Beschreibungen dokumentiert. Über die Reihe TASCHEN ist 40!
