Het graf van Nacht
Een Thebaanse grafkapel en zijn facsimileDit boek schetst de ontstaansgeschiedenis van het facsimile van de grafkapel van Nacht, tuinier en offerdrager in de tempel van Karnak in de 14de eeuw v.Chr. Het facsimile werd in 1928 ingehuldigd in de Koninklijke Musea voor Kunst en Geschiedenis en geldt vandaag als een waardevol getuigenis, gezien de fragmentarische staat van de oorspronkelijke muurschilderingen in het graf zelf. Het initiatief voor dit project werd in 1925 genomen door Jean Capart, pionier binnen de Belgische egyptologie en toenmalig directeur van het museum in Brussel. Hij vertrouwde de uitvoering toe aan de Franse kunstenares en egyptologe Marcelle Baud. Zij baseerde zich daarbij op de nauwgezette opmetingen die een eeuw eerder in het graf waren gemaakt door de Brit Robert Hay. Dankzij deze grondige wetenschappelijke voorbereiding kreeg het facsimile niet alleen een educatieve functie, maar werd het ook een tastbare herinnering aan een erfgoed dat deels verloren is gegaan.
