Schrijver en kunstenaar Octavie Wolters vraagt zich al haar hele leven af hoe vogels tegen de dingen aan kijken. Hoe mooi het zou zijn om met hen te kunnen praten. Dit gaat nooit voorbij is een bundel persoonlijke verhalen over haar wandelingen, en is een reis door de seizoenen en het leven zelf. Het bevat schitterende linosneden in kleur en op groot formaat. Octavie Wolters schreef eerder de roman Voorland en het biografische Slot, en oogstte veel succes met het prentenboek Het lied van de spreeuw, dat bekroond werd met een Zilveren Penseel. Dat laatste boek werd al aan zeven landen verkocht, waaronder Duitsland, Frankrijk, Japan en Engeland. De schemering valt, de lucht wordt langzaam helder, achter de populieren de maan. De merel vliegt op van zijn tak en verdwijnt uit het zicht. Ik stel me voor dat hij met de verstrijkende tijd meevliegt, even langzaam, even snel.
