Alan McCrae Moorehead OBE was a war correspondent and author of popular histories, most notably two books on the nineteenth-century exploration of the Nile, The White Nile and The Blue Nile. Australian-born, he lived in England, and Italy, from 1937. Alan Moorehead was born in Melbourne, Australia. He was educated at Scotch College, with a BA from Melbourne University. He travelled to England in 1937 and became a renowned foreign correspondent for the London Daily Express. Writer, world traveller, biographer, essayist, journalist, Moorehead was one of the most successful writers in English of his day. He married Lucy Milner, who at the Daily Express in 1937 "presided over a women's page free of the patronising sentimentality which marked much writing for women at the time". During World War II he won an international reputation for his coverage of campaigns in the Middle East and Asia, the Mediterranean and Northwest Europe

September 1983) war ein britischer Journalist und Sachbuchautor. Moorehead wurde vor allem bekannt als Auslandskorrespondent des Daily Express sowie als Verfasser vielgelesener Reiseberichte und Biographien. Moorehead wuchs in Australien auf. Nach dem Besuch des Scotch College und der Universität Melbourne, die er mit einem BA-Abschluss verließ, siedelte er 1937 nach Großbritannien über. In den folgenden Jahre verdingte Moorehead sich als Auslandskorrespondent für die englische Tageszeitung Daily Express. Neben seinen Reportagen für den Express legte Moorehead auch Biographien, Aufsätze und Reiseberichte vor, die ihn zu einem der meistgelesenen britischen Autoren seiner Zeit machten. Während des Zweiten Weltkrieges gewann er internationales Ansehen für seine Berichte von verschiedenen Kriegsschauplätzen im mittleren Osten, Asien, dem Mittelmeerraum und aus Nordwesteuropa.
