Andrew John Ridgeley (born 26 January 1963) is an English former pop singer-songwriter, guitarist and environmentalist. Andrew was a member (with George Michael) of the 1980s pop music duo Wham!. Ridgeley was born in Windlesham, Surrey to Jennifer and Albert Ridgeley. His mother is British and his father is Egyptian-Italian. Ridgeley grew up in Bushey, Hertfordshire, and attended Bushey Meads School. His mother was a schoolteacher at Bushey Heath Primary School and his father worked for Canon. When George Michael was enrolled at the school, Ridgeley volunteered to take him under his wing.

'90" (also known simply as "Freedom") is a song written and performed by George Michael, and released on Epic Records in 1990. The "'90" added to the end of the title is to prevent confusion with an international hit by Michael's former band, Wham!, also titled "Freedom". The song was a highly-praised confessional project from Michael, acknowledging his fortune and luck from his early days with Wham! - referring directly to Andrew Ridgeley as his "buddy". The cleverly worded song was initially promoted as describing Michael's effort to break free from his publishing contract with Sony Music. However, as Michael's sexuality came to light eight years later with his arrest in a public bathroom in April 1998, the song became equally recognized as a one that describes the struggles of being a closeted homosexual. Michael has since been open about his orientation.

Originally released in May 1990, Ridgeley's effort was a sharp turn away from his former pop image with Wham! years earlier. Focusing more on guitars and drums, the critics panned Ridgeley's attempt at a solo record. After terrible revenue sales from 'Son of Albert', Ridgeley slowly but surely quit playing music professionally. In addition, two singles from the album, "Red Dress" and "Shake", were released in 1990 with little success. Another song, "Mexico", was scheduled to be released as the album's third single, but was dropped for reasons unknown. Ridgeley's album is named after himself, as the Son of Albert Ridgeley. All songs produced and arranged by Andrew Ridgeley and Gary Bromham, unless noted otherwise.
