En France, la série est diffusée depuis le 4 janvier 2005 sur Jimmy, depuis le 12 avril 2007 sur Canal+ et sur Comédie !. Au Québec, la série est diffusée depuis le 1er  juin 2009 sur V. Charlie Harper est un compositeur de jingles publicitaires à succès qui mène une vie de riche célibataire : maison sur la plage de Malibu, voiture de luxe, innombrables conquêtes féminines... Mais un beau jour, son frère Alan, chiropracteur un peu coincé, se sépare de sa femme et débarque avec Jake, son fils âgé d'une dizaine d'années. Ce qui, au départ, ne devait être qu'un hébergement temporaire se transforme en cohabitation qui bouleverse l'univers de Charlie.

The show is consistently ranked one of the most watched comedies every season in the United States. It has been announced that Charlie Sheen is entering rehab, so taping of the show will temporarily go on hiatus.

Chuck Lorre (born Charles Michael Levine on October 18, 1952) is a writer, director, producer and composer who has worked on many American sitcoms, including Grace Under Fire, Dharma & Greg, Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory and the Canadian 1980's to 90's show My Secret Identity.He wrote Deborah Harry's radio hit single "French Kissin' in the USA" for the 1986 Rockbird album.
