Joseph Barber

Joseph Barber (1757 - July 16, 1811) was an English landscape painter and art teacher. Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, Barber moved to Birmingham in the 1770s, where he worked painting papier-mâché and japanned goods. By the mid 1880s he was well-established as the town's first drawing master, with an academy training artists on Great Charles Street. His pupils there included David Cox, William Radclyffe and Samuel Lines, who was to form his own academy in Newhall Street in 1807. Barber had five children. His two sons Vincent Barber and Charles Barber both trained as painters in his academy, with Vincent taking over its running after his father's death in 1811. His daughters Maria, Eliza and Ann Matilda also exhibited paintings and taught private students. Ann Matilda was the mother of theologian and Bishop of Durham Joseph Barber Lightfoot.

Cox Process
Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. A Cox process (named after the statistician Sir David Cox), also known as a doubly stochastic Poisson process or mixed Poisson process is a stochastic process which is a generalization of a Poisson process. In the case of Cox processes, the time-dependent intensity is a stochastic process which is separated from the Poisson process. An example would be a spike train of a sensory neuron with external stimulation. If the stimulation is a stochastic process and it modulates the firing rate (intensity function) of the neuron, then the spike train can be thought of as a realization of a Cox process.

Power Transform
Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. In statistics, the power transform is from family of functions that are applied to create a rank-preserving transformation of data using power functions. This is a useful data (pre)processing technique used to stabilize variance, make the data more normal distribution-like, improve the correlation between variables and for other data stabilization procedures. The Box-Cox transformation, by statisticians George E. P. Box and David Cox, is one particular way of parameterising a power transform that has advantageous properties.
