Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online.Kenpachi Zaraki is a fictional character and supporting anti-hero in the anime and manga series Bleach created by Tite Kubo. He is the captain of the 11th Division within the Gotei 13. His lieutenant is Yachiru Kusajishi. Kenpachi has a wild and aggressive appearance, fitting with his personality. He wears his captain's jacket without sleeves, and with a more ragged look to it--he acquired his jacket from the previous 11th Division captain, whom he defeated and killed in a duel in order to become captain. He styles his hair into liberty spikes with bells at the tips, which, Tite Kubo has remarked, makes his hair one of the most difficult to draw in the series.

    The Cockleshell Heroes

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The Cockleshell Heroes is a 1955 Second World War film with Trevor Howard, Anthony Newley, David Lodge and José Ferrer, who also directed. It is a fictionalised version of Operation Frankton, the true story of a commando raid on shipping in Bordeaux harbour. It was the first Warwick Film to be filmed in Cinemascope. Ferrer plays newly-promoted Major Stringer of the Royal Marines, who comes up with a novel idea for a raid. By using canoes, he believes it is possible for commandos to reach an enemy-held harbour undetected and blow up ships with limpet mines. He is given command of a small group of volunteers. However, he clashes with his veteran second-in-command, cynical, by-the-book Captain Hugh Thompson (Trevor Howard).

    Academics and Novel

The purpose of this book is to describe the English campus novel in order to give a summary of its key traits and draw attention to the dissolution of the academic community's long-held myth of the ivory tower. A naive protagonist, an episodic plot, a satirical tone, and a multitude of stylized supporting characters, according to Wiegenstein (1987), are the four conventions that distinguish college fiction as a distinct subgenre. The plots of this genre may be totally different and have various functions; sometimes, as in the novel Joseph O'Neil's Dog (2015), they are intertwined around critiques of the real world outside of academic boundaries. Additionally, as in David Lodge's Nice Work, it may focus on the conflict between academic principles and commercial values as well as their applicability to society as a whole. Finally, it may dwell upon the description of sexual harassment as in Dietrich Schwanitz¿s Der Campus (1996): A professor of sociology and contestant for the position of chancellor/university president stumbles upon a burdensome incident with a female student who accuses him of inappropriate behavior and rape with the help of the dean.

  10. A Stylistic Approach to Irony in David Lodge's Campus Trilogy

A Stylistic Approach to Irony in David Lodge's Campus Trilogy

This book proposes a stylistic approach to David Lodge's academic universe depicted in his trilogy Changing Places, Small World, Nice Work. With novels formally and subthematically distinct, not intended as a trilogy in the first place, Lodge's work has been subjected to close, not yet exhaustive, analysis. The critic studies published up to the present focus especially on the field of literary criticism and agree that irony is the unifying key of the novels in the trilogy. The novelty of this study comes from the prevalently linguistic stylistic analysis of the multifaceted academic universe. Its purpose was to validate the intuitions of the critics or of the readers, for that matter, and to emphasize new facts of style which have not been investigated so far. This led to the identification and analysis of a wide range of stylistic strategies of rendering irony, the challenging game of the literary texts of the trilogy.

'Textuality as Striptease': The Discourses of Intimacy in David Lodge's 'Changing Places'and 'Small World'

The book analyses how David Lodge's Changing Places and Small World relate to the sphere of the intimate in the decades in which they were written, published and read. The analysis of the novels is preceded by an approach to Lodge's work and a theoretical section which looks at the concept of intimacy, the evolution of intimate practices in the sixties, seventies and eighties and the connections between intimacy and literary genre. This leads on to a study of Changing Places and Small World in their intimate contexts and an exploration of their links with the genres of comedy and romance. The author uncovers significant ideological differences between the two novels, which have often been lumped together by the critics.

From Philosophy of Fiction to Cognitive Poetics

Studies collected in this volume investigate selected issues in contemporary philosophy of language and philosophy of literature. Individual authors concentrate on philosophy of fiction and discuss fictional worlds and fictional characters. They also present different approaches to translation theory, and metaphor theory (both classical and conceptual). Other chapters address the issues of figurativeness and poetic language, apply the principles of cognitive poetics to analyse different types of texts, and provide cognitive approaches to abstraction in visual and verbal art, also to the categories of similarity and difference in perception and language. The analysed authors include Wallace Stevens, Rae Armantrout, Ernest Hemingway and David Lodge.
